VitiMikroKlim - The spatiotemporal high resolution recording of microclimatic parameters in viticulture to optimize forecast and processes
Climate change is already clearly noticeable in winegrowing in Rhineland-Palatinate. According to the Agriculture Ministers' Conference 2019 in Mainz, the economic power of the agricultural holdings is significantly reduced due to the increase in extreme weather events and the resulting damage which is why the the ability to adapt to climate change is to be strengthened. In this regard Weather forecast systems currently used by the Rhineland-Palatinate winegrowers (and Farmers) deliver inadequate location-specific data that could be incorporated in field-specific recommendations. The aim is therefore to use local pattern recognition in the vineyard distributed sensors for a limited time as well as geostatistical methods and machine learnings to improve the mapping of the microclimate.
Data that can be interpreted spatially and temporally are collected, which serve to expand the measuring network of the agricultural meteorology RLP in the micro-climate area, through the integration of additional information (terrain models, etc.), and thus also flow into further forecast models, which can then also be offered via the geobox infrastructure.
