Development of a concept for the economic feeding use of grain legumes for cattle, pigs and chickens in Schleswig-Holstein in organic and conventional
The cultivation of grain legumes should be made successful in conventional and organic farming, in order to promote the use of domestic grain legumes and significantly expand the area under cultivation in Schleswig-Holstein. The utilization of native protein crops, mainly in-house, is to be tested and improved. Ton broad bean will be the focus of this project. The development of the technological process for heat treatment of broad beans to increase the feed value on the farm (use of stationary operating or mobile solutions by the contractor) will be tested in feeding trials with different animal species. The shelling of broad beans to increase the energy content is another aspect which is to be tested in piglet feeding.
The following results are available at the end of the project period:
- The mobile expander plant inll. The mobile expander screw, vapour generator and preconditioner were largely completed. The automatic control system, including the preconditioner, and the construction of a propionic acid dosing unit on the lower part of the conveyor belt are still to be finalised.
- The development of the expander entailed unforeseeable challenges in terms of technical realisation. The remaining development could not be finalised by the end of the project.
- As the mobile expander was a prerequisite for subsequent feeding trials, these and the economic evaluation could no longer be carried out during the funding period.
- With the support of the project, the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Agriculture's internet trading platform for grain legumes was reorganised (www.lksh.de/warenboerse-koernerleguminosen/).
