Artificial Intelligence for Maintenance of Grassland
Permanent grassland is a defining feature of the agricultural landscape in Germany and Hesse. It enriches the environment with a variety of ecological, social, and economic functions.
Currently, there is a decline in permanent grassland areas, which can be attributed to various causes. These include, for example, changes in agricultural structure, improper maintenance, climate change, and the spread of invasive species. The project is developing an innovative technology that combines drone technology, sensor technology, and artificial intelligence to enable targeted and sustainable maintenance of grassland areas. The focus is on non-chemical control of unwanted plant species, which promotes both the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of water and soil. The use of autonomous, selective robots can support agriculture in the more efficient management of permanent grassland areas while ensuring compliance with ecological requirements. Special innovations of the project include the monitoring of problem and indicator species, the integration of artificial intelligence for the targeted control of problematic plant species, and the development of a control me
