Project Title

Development of a manure removal and cleaning robot for alternative pig farming systems (PigPooPicker)

Project description

A reorientation towards barns with outdoor runs and bedding in pig farming is creating new challenges in the way work is carried out. The result is an increase in the amount of work involved in bedding and especially in manure removal.
The aim of the project is to adapt existing robot systems from the company Zauberzeug GmbH for horse husbandry to a manure removal robot for alternative pig stables with outdoor runs and bedding.
The aim is to reduce negative environmental impacts by separating manure and urine. As scraper systems for manure removal can only be used in a specific pen area and are tied to pens with slatted floors, they cannot provide efficient support to the farmer if the animals shift the manure area (e.g. due to seasonal fluctuations). In addition, litter impairs the functionality of the scraper technology. A collection system is required that collects manure continuously and promptly from the entire barn area and enables the use of litter. The technology should optimize work processes and compensate for the workload.
