Site-specific fertilization strategies in red and eutrophic areas in NRW with the inclusion of climate and soil sensors
Fertilization strategies must become more efficient in the face of scarce fertilizers and increasingly strict regulations. In the small-scale and livestock-intensive region around Warendorf, soil and climate sensors as well as satellite data are being integrated in order to develop optimized fertilization measures together with farmers based on algorithms from the collected data. The focus is on homogenizing or differentiating site-specific nitrogen fertilization strategies, especially in view of climatic fluctuations and the expansion of red and eutrophic areas in NRW and Warendorf. The objectives are higher nutrient efficiency, farm profitability and climate resilience of the cropping systems.
The strategies developed are to be implemented and tested by means of on-farm research, with existing farm management information systems enabling site-specific implementation. This facilitates fertilizer planning before and during the growing season as well as the monitoring of fertilizer requirements. Cost-benefit analyses and soil sampling will be carried out to assess economic benefits and other positive effects for sustainable agriculture.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
