Water storage and operational strategy for climate change adaptation - WassKli
The OG WassKli aims to sustainably strengthen the competitiveness and adaptability of agriculture in Lower Saxony, particularly in regions with increasing irrigation requirements. Considering increasing droughts and climatic changes, securing additional water resources from natural and artificial reservoirs is becoming essential to secure crop yields in terms of both quantity and quality. Without a reliable water supply, sensitive crops risk significant losses or even total failure, especially in hot, dry summers. The project takes a integrated management approach to water, incorporating not only groundwater but also alternative sources such as treated water from sewage treatment plants, drainage systems and runoff from streams. This strategy aims to protect scarce groundwater and ensure a stable water supply even during dry periods. In addition, a practical guide for farmers is being developed as part of the project, which provides instructions for the planning and implementation of water reservoirs.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
