Project Title

Sustainable cut flowers

Project description

The continued existence of the traditional cut flower industry in Hamburg is jeopardised by various challenges. Imported goods from the global South can be produced at more favourable prices. At the same time, this is accompanied by high negative environmental effects. There is a risk of an even greater relocation of production abroad. The aim of the project is to develop a comprehensive, sustainable farm management system together with the farms in order to strengthen value creation in the region and thus reduce further migration. The FAIR'N GREEN system already established in other cultures will serve as the basis for this. This enables production to be made more sustainable through targeted measures in the areas of soil and plant protection, energy efficiency, water management and biodiversity conservation, and to communicate this performance to customers. The establishment of a regional knowledge network and the creation of cross-company platforms will promote the exchange of knowledge between cut flower producing companies in order to develop innovative and sustainable solutions for the sector.
