Project Title

AVI-HUMIN – Humic Acids to Improve Poultry Health and Reduce Antibiotic Use

Project description

Poultry farms face the challenge of maintaining animal health and economic viability while further reducing the use of antibiotics. In particular, intestinal diseases frequently require treatment and increase the risk of antimicrobial resistance. AVI-HUMIN therefore investigates the potential of humic acids derived from leonardite as a natural feed additive in poultry production. The project focuses on their effects on gut health, bone stability and performance in broilers and turkeys. Scientific controlled feeding trials are combined with practical on-farm testing under real housing conditions in Hesse and Bavaria. The aim is to assess the effectiveness and practical suitability of humic acids and to develop concrete recommendations for poultry farming. At the same time, the project will investigate whether stabilising animal health through the use of humic acids can contribute to reducing antibiotic use.
