Nuss IQ – Innovative strategies to improve quality and yield in regional hazelnut orchards through foliar application of boron, zinc and silicon
Hazelnut production is becoming increasingly important in Germany due to changing climatic conditions and its growing market potential. At the same time, significant quality and yield losses occur, for example due to empty nuts, fungal infections, premature fruit drop and damage caused by brown spot disease. In addition, there is a lack of site-specific knowledge on targeted nutrient supply and practical recommendations for German growing conditions. The project aims to improve nut quality and yield through targeted foliar applications of boron, zinc and silicon and to reduce quality defects. Different application timings throughout the year will be investigated. In particular, the project will provide the first systematic field-based assessment of silicon application in German hazelnut production. Based on the results, sustainable, site-specific recommendations for growers and agricultural advisors will be developed.
Results and the Final report will be found here, as soon as the project is completed.
