Project Title

HempFill - Development of a Process Chain for the Production of High-Quality Short-Fiber Additives from Industrial Hemp

Project description

The EIP innovation project HempFill is developing a sustainable process for producing high-quality short fibres from industrial hemp. The aim is to use these fibres as a bio-based natural fibre additive in specialty papers and innovative leather alternatives for the automotive industry. All partners along the value chain – from agriculture and processing to industrial application – are actively involved in the development process. A key focus is the use of winter hemp as a catch crop to create additional value in rural areas without competing with food production. In addition, summer hemp is being assessed with regard to technical, economic and environmental factors. HempFill aims to establish regional and scalable raw material supply chains while contributing to biodiversity, soil protection and CO₂ reduction.
