Project Title

kiSOBUS - Artificial Intelligence for ISOBUS-based Optimization and Assessment of Tillage Tool Wear and Maintenance

Project description

Wear of tillage tools such as cultivator, hoe, or plough shares significantly affects work quality, fuel consumption, and operating costs. Today, wear is usually assessed visually and often only detected once performance has already deteriorated. In the kiSOBUS project we are developing an AI-based system for real-time wear assessment. Using ISOBUS (ISO 11783), machine data such as engine torque, wheel slip, traction, and fuel consumption are combined with soil information including moisture content, soil type, and yield maps. Machine-learning methods are used to predict optimal replacement times. In addition, 3D scans record material loss and geometric changes in the shares. The system will be validated under real-world operating conditions and integrated into ISOBUS terminals and farm management systems. The goal is to create an objective, data-driven tool for predictive maintenance without additional hardware. This will help reduce downtime, lower fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, and support the development of more durable and wear-optimized agricultural equipment.
