Project Title

Establishment of a globally visible arnica cultivation network in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate (implementation)

Project description

Due to a sharp rise in the price of Arnica montana flowers, the cultivation of the flower now appears to be economically viable compared to wild collection, which used to be cheaper. Arnica cultivation can therefore represent an attractive alternative crop for farmers with high added value. However, farms often lack the necessary structures for arnica cultivation. By belonging to the targeted grower network, farmers benefit from purchase guarantees at fixed prices, from cultivation expertise, information exchange, organization of inter-farm machinery and drying facilities as well as internal networking. Diversification can be enabled through arnica cultivation as a gateway to other specialty crops. Furthermore, there are several extraction companies in Bavaria that benefit greatly from a regular and reliable supply of high-quality arnica flower drugs.
