Project description

In order to counteract climate change and increase biodiversity in the Bavarian landscape, a significant increase in tree planting is necessary. The Tree Seeding Project develops a method for directly sowing native trees using fruit pomace. The goal is to establish climate-resilient, biodiverse structures at low cost. This creates a new opportunity to establish climate-resilient and biodiversity-promoting tree structures across the landscape. Expected results are a significant reduction in planting costs compared to conventional reforestation, greater area impact, and better ecological integration into existing farming systems. At the same time, the method is expected to support natural succession, activate soil life, and improve water retention. The project will assess how seed mixtures, application techniques, and follow-up care influence establishment and biodiversity.
