Project Title

MeatCheck - Direct traceability of regionally produced meat products back to the farm of origin for greater transparency in the meat industry

Project description

With MeatCheck, the development and establishment of a procedure for the safe, costeffective and rapid verification of the origin and production conditions of regional meat products in Brandenburg is planned. For this purpose, genetic data (identity of the animals) is linked with process data that provides information about the production conditions during the rearing and processing of the animal. This will provide the user of MeatCheck with reliable information on the origin of the meat. The standardized sampling kit and process procedure to be developed in the project will enable producers, retailers, restaurants or consumers to independently sample a meat product, which, after being sent to the laboratory, will allow the identity and origin of the animal to be reliably determined using a selected genetic diagnostic analysis method. This enables the user to obtain direct information about the meat product they have purchased, together with the relevant process data, and to guarantee the purchaser the certainty of origin in order to strengthen confidence in regional meat production.
