Project Title

Value creation with lavender and industrial hemp: cultivation, extraction and processing of residues (concept development)

Project description

Concept development

In view of climate change, it makes sense to cultivate plants such as lavender and industrial hemp, which offer long-term prospects for farmers. Lavender requires little fertiliser and water, minimises soil erosion and attracts insects. Industrial hemp improves soil quality, produces oxygen, binds CO2 and increases biodiversity.

The project aims to increase the added value of lavender and industrial hemp by processing the plants using (water vapour) extraction. By involving experts, the entire production process - from cultivation to the utilisation of residual materials - will be optimised in terms of economic aspects (e.g. higher profits) and public welfare objectives (e.g. greater sustainability). On this basis, a concept is developed that focuses, for example, on testing other varieties and making better use of the residues from water vapour extraction.
