Project Title

Systemic neophyte management concept for tiger nut grass in Lower Saxony

Project description

Agriculture is currently facing a number of challenges, such as climate change, which are evident to society as a whole.society as a whole. But lesser-known developments also pose challenges for agriculture, such as the spread of the neophyte tiger nut grass (Cyperus esculentus L.). Still relatively unknown to many farmers, the plant is spreading rapidly in some regions and is difficult to control. Using a participatory approach, the project aims to raise awareness of agricultural stakeholders to the problem and actively involve them in the systematic recording of the current occurrence of the plant in Lower Saxony and the development of effective and economically attractive solutions to existing infestations. The various key elements are to be linked in a systemic neophyte management concept. In addition to the overall concept for regional neophyte management, the further development of control options is planned. For innovative, regional and sustainable solutions in the control of neophytes, approaches involving pigs are to be further developed.
