Project Title

Algae-EPA Eicosapentaenoic acid extraction from microalgae

Project description

The project aims to obtain eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) from microalgae. The developed product is intended to create new sales opportunities for algae producers and newcomers. To this end, various algae species for the production of EPA will first be screened and examined with regard to optimal cultivation conditions. The most promising strains with their cultivation parameters are implemented both in closed photobioreactors and in the open tank system. After cell harvesting using a harvesting system to be developed in the project, the cells are broken down, the fatty acids are extracted and the EPA is purified. At the end of the project, a directly marketable EPA algae oil should be developed.
